The subject of the book “Durga Sthal Mahatmya” is somewhat unique because while we have read extensive books providing information about forts in Maharashtra, books providing information about the places within these forts are comparatively less. The reason for writing this book is that just as every fort in Maharashtra has its own grandeur, similarly, each place within these forts has its own grandeur.

When we visit a fort, we also look at the places within it because without exploring these places, the fort exploration remains incomplete. These places include doors, ramparts, bastions, lakes, temples, sculptures, buildings, wells, and many other things. The more places there are to see within a fort, the more time it takes to explore it.

Each of these places within the forts has its own history and geography. There were some specific reasons behind constructing these places, and these places bear witness to many historical events that occurred over the years.

While exploring forts for many years, the author made efforts to delve into the depths of these places. After inspecting these places and conducting research on them through books and historical artifacts, efforts were made to incorporate the information and importance of these places in this book in a new way.

There are over 500 known and unknown forts in Maharashtra, and the places mentioned in this book have been carefully selected. However, considering the vastness of forts and the multitude of places within them, the coverage of places in this book is minimal. With the cooperation of readers, in future editions, more places will be included, including those familiar and unfamiliar places in Maharashtra’s forts.

This book aims to introduce newly discovered places to readers and encourages them to visit these sites again, even if they have previously visited them. This book has successfully achieved its goal of encouraging writing about forts, and it will surely be appreciated by fort enthusiasts.
